RICZU TAMÁS (viticulturist-oenologist)

Riczu Tamás (viticulturist-oenologist) is a young, creative and talented winemaker for more than 17 years now. Growing grapes and winemaking is not just a trade for him or a way to make his living but much rather a mission, an endless “love” that is pursuing him to cope with new challenges every day.

Lovers and connoisseurs of the Villány region wines are fully aware that Riczu Tamás is an exceptionally talented winemaker. His wines are complex, nice and memorable.

Their characteristic feature is that extra fine velvety touch, the so-called “Riczu flavor”.

Riczu’s wines have been winning great prizes at wine competitions since 2006. Considering his oeuvre as well as the prizes and awards he has received at international, domestic and regional wine competitions, it is easy to figure out that he is one of the most successful winemakers in the Villány region.

His success is without a doubt the result of the use of modern technology and his respectful attitude to nature and traditions, coupled with a very humble approach to his profession.

Ars poetica of the winemaker
“Today my only desire is to take responsibility for every single grape in the vineyard. My principles and sense of awareness demand that I should be physically present at every stage of the whole process of winemaking from pruning through grape- and environmentally friendly, chemical-free spraying, harvesting and gentle grape processing up to the last moment when the bottle is closed. Gentle processing means that the growing grapes need “caressing” and although this approach results in less juice, the benefit is more challenging as the wine will contain less tannins from the skin. However, due to the high extracts and the ripe acidic contents, my wines are easy to mature and they are very enjoyable even when they are still young.

I want to know about everything happening in the winery and the wine itself. By now, I have enough experience to have a good grasp of our estate and manage it in a planned manner.

THE WAY I AM MAKING MY WINES REPRESENTS A SMALL CONTRIBUTION TO THE PRESERVATION OF OUR ENVIRONMENT AND OUR HEALTH. IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT IN THE LONG RUN “ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT” IS THE ONLY VIABLE WAY FOR ME. THE PERFECT WINE IS BORN IN THE VINEYARD AND IT IS SHAPED BY THE CHARACTER OF THE PATHFINDING WINEMAKER…”
